Vassiou Ermioni

Ermioni Vassiou has graduated from Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art at University of Ionian Islands presenting a graduation thesis entitled: ‘The Art of Engraving from 15th to 19th century. Conservation and Preservation of engravings from collections at the Museum of Byzantine Culture in Thessaloniki’.

Ermioni continued her studies at Master’s degree programme in Protection, Conservation and Restoration of Works of Art and Mechanisms (Direction B, MSc) at Faculty of Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Subject of her Master thesis was about: ‘Composition of iron gall inks from historic recipes, application on substrates with various writing instruments and their study before and after accelerated aging’.

Alongside she has work experience in the field of Conservation in Book and Paper, Wall Painting and Wooden Sculpture artifacts.  Currently, Ermioni Vassiou is a PhD candidate at University of West Attica continued with a thesis entitled: “Study of physico-chemical degradation of iron gall inks based on historical Byzantine recipes. Investigation of the role of metal ions by non-destructive spectroscopic techniques.”  under the supervision of Dr. Andreas Karydas (XRF laboratory, INPP at NCSR “Demokritos”), Prof. Stamatios Boyatzis and Αssistant Professor Vassiliki Kokla at the Department of Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art, University of West Attica

Nelly Kladouri

Nelly Kladouri has studied Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art, at the Technological Educational Institute of Athens (BSc).

In 2018 Nelly Kladouri successfully defended her MSc thesis, conducted in the XFR laboratory of the Institute of Nuclear and Particle Physics at the NCSR Demokritos, entitled: “A technological study of a bronze pins collection of the geometric period from the sanctuary of Athena Alea at Tegea” (MSc in Cultural Heritage Materials and Technologies-University of the Peloponnese). During her postgraduate studies, Nelly Kladouri was the recipient of the scholarship awarded to the top-scoring student, by the University of the Peloponnese (CultTech Scholarship Program).

Currently, Nelly Kladouri is a doctoral candidate of the University of Peloponnese, conducting metal analysis on votive finds from various sanctuaries of Arcadia, Greece dating between the 9th -7thc. B.C.E.. The detailed micro-XRF study of metal artefacts is conducted at the XRF laboratory of the INPP.

Her primary research interest focuses on the chemical analysis, characterization and provenance study of archaeological and historical metals.

She is a regular employee in the field of Conservation of Antiquities for the Greek Ministry of Culture.

Kalliopi Tsampa

Kalliopi Tsampa has graduated from the Physics Department of the University of Athens (2017) presenting a BSc diploma work entitled: “Construction and Characterization of nuclear targets using Rutherford Backscattering Spectroscopy”. The period 2017-2019 Ms Tsampa attended the interdepartmental MSc program of the School of Applied Mathematical and Physical Sciences at the National Technical University of Athens (2018-2019). Kalliopi Tsampa MSc thesis was conducted at the XRF Laboratory of the Institute of Nuclear and Particle Physics of NCSR “Demokritos” (2018-2019) with the subject: “Macroscopic X-ray fluorescence (MA-XRF) imaging and quantitative characterization of Platinum Group Mineral inclusions in Mycenean gold signet rings”. She has acquired extensive experience in field XRF measurements and in the analysis, calibration and quantification of MA-XRF imaging data. In March 2019, Kalliopi Tsampa has also participated in a synchrotron radiation experiment at the XRF beamline of Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste aimed to study X-ray resonant Raman scattering on gold atoms.
